[off-topic] 5 Things...

Here's one of the rare off-topic Slashgeo entries. A lot of geobloggers have been required to share 5 things about themselves that the others don't know. I've been tagged by Jeff of Vector One. Let's play the game, I'll try to keep it short! Not to bother Slashgeo readers whom just want pertinent geospatial stories on Slashgeo's main page, my not-so-hidden secrets are shared below.

1 - Your life can end anytime.

Somehow, life regularly makes me remember how fragile our human life can be. Almost ten years ago while working 4000' underground, a wall of rock fell towards me. I ran and stumbled down with what was later estimated to 6 tons of rock hitting ground right beside me. I was lucky nothing touched me. My colleague at that time was also lucky, but not enough. He lost his chin in the adventure. A few months later I was in Amazonia tens (hundreds?) of kilometers away from any village for a few months and everyday offered a unforeseen mean to die. I was also shot in Ecuador years before Amazonia. Oh, I dare even claim I once 'saw' a lost bullet passing close to my head. Got other nice similar stories, will keep them for another "5 Things" story ;-)

2 - French but not French.

I'm a french canadian. My main language is french though I speak more or less badly english and some spanish. I will eventually become a 'real' French however, since my wife has the French/European citizenship.

3 - Geospatial technologies?

Ok, I came late to geomatics and remote sensing. It's only after my engineering degree that I switched, and I couldn't be happier, to geomatics/remote sensing for my Masters.

4 - I am not an extremist, but...

No really. It's circumstantial, I am innocent ;-) I have no TV, no cow milk, no car (ok, a motorcycle ;-), no illegal or unpaid software on my computer at home, no cellphone, etc.

5 - I am open.

This "5 Things" doesn't worry me about privacy. I'll learn much more about me on my morganigram (not been updated for a while), it's a simple introspection and proaction tool. Another demonstration of my openness is Slashgeo's open budget :-)

Wild card: I don't pass this "5 Things" game on to anyone in particular, anybody wanting to participate is welcomed and can use this wild card as an excuse ;-)
Oh yes, one last thing. Thanks Jeff :)
